Read to Succeed (R2S)
Read to Succeed (R2S) program is a dedicated initiative aimed at fostering early childhood literacy and educational success within the African American community in the Orlando area. This program recognizes the critical importance of early literacy in a child's development and focuses on providing resources, support, and opportunities to children and families who may face socio-economic challenges.
Through a combination of targeted reading programs, mentorship, workshops, and community engagement events, the R2S program works to empower parents, caregivers, and educators with the tools they need to promote literacy from an early age. By addressing both educational and social barriers, the Greater Orlando Affiliate Chapter seeks to create a nurturing environment where young Black children can thrive academically and emotionally, setting a strong foundation for their future success. In doing so, the program aims to narrow the achievement gap and contribute to a more equitable and brighter future for all children in the community.
The Hungerford Storytelling Project
The Hungerford Storytelling Project is a transformative initiative that weaves together the power of storytelling, community engagement, and cultural preservation to create a meaningful impact. Based in the historic Hungerford neighborhood, this project serves as a platform for sharing and celebrating the unique narratives, experiences, and voices of the local community.
At its heart, the project aims to document and preserve the stories, memories, and traditions of Hungerford's residents, capturing the essence of their lives and the rich history of the neighborhood. Through oral histories, interviews, and creative expressions, the project brings to light personal journeys, historical anecdotes, and cultural heritage that might otherwise be lost to time.
The Hungerford Storytelling Project organizes a series of community gatherings, workshops, and events that encourage individuals of all ages to share their stories. These events foster a sense of unity and belonging, allowing participants to connect through shared experiences and gain a deeper understanding of the diverse tapestry that forms the community.
